Indoor Security Cameras Banned on Airbnb

From April 30, 2024, Airbnb no longer allows hosts to use indoor security cameras in their listed properties — in any room, for any reason. What changed and why The policy followed a series of complaints from guests who found hidden cameras in rental accommodations. Airbnb's response was a full ban on indoor cameras, with no exceptions. Hosts are also now required to disclose the presence and location of any outdoor cameras. Non-compliance carries real consequences: listings can be removed and host accounts suspended. What you need to do For most hosts, this is simple. If you had indoor cameras for security purposes, they need to come down. If you're concerned about property security without them, here's where to focus instead:
  • Outdoor cameras at entry points (front door, driveway, gate)
  • Smart locks with access logs so you know who came and went
  • Thorough guest screening through the platform before accepting bookings
The bigger picture Guest privacy is becoming a more prominent factor in how platforms regulate hosts. Staying ahead of these changes is part of running a professional rental operation.
