Security in Your Vacation Rental Property
Every owner is responsible for the safety of their guests and their property. Beyond the rental contract, here are the practical steps that make a real difference.
- Write a house rules document and send it to guests before arrival. Post a copy somewhere visible inside the property.
- Keep communication open with your guests throughout their stay. Most problems are easier to solve early.
- Install smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher in accessible locations.
- Use a key box or a code lock so keys are always secure and you're never locked out of your own property.
- Get insurance for your property. It's not optional.
- Reduce physical risks inside the property: anti-slip surfaces, railings where needed, secure balconies.
- Check that electrical and gas installations are in good working order before every guest arrives.
