Vacation Rental in the New Normal
The pandemic changed what guests expect from a rental. Here are the six shifts that defined the new normal. They still matter today.
1. Better hospitality
Guests aren't just looking for a well-equipped space. They want a good host. Warm, responsive communication and a property that feels genuinely cared for leads to better reviews and more repeat bookings.
2. Longer stays
Remote work changed the math. Guests who work from anywhere need stability, not just a weekend getaway. Properties that accommodate longer stays fill more nights.
3. Fast, reliable Wi-Fi
This went from a nice-to-have to a dealbreaker. If your connection is slow or unreliable, guests will say so in their review.
4. Vacation rental over hotel
Privacy, space, and competitive pricing made vacation rentals the preferred choice for many travelers, especially those with hygiene concerns in shared hotel spaces.
5. Contactless check-in and check-out
Key lockboxes and coded entry became standard. Guests got used to arriving on their own schedule without needing to meet anyone.
6. Communication is everything
Keeping guests updated on their arrival, the property status, and any changes builds trust and prevents problems. A quick message at the right moment is worth more than any amenity.
