Tips for Driving Safely in Rainy Season

Before heading out in wet weather, take a few minutes to check your vehicle. Your tires in particular deserve attention, as they're the only thing between your car and the road, and they affect braking, steering, and stability more than most drivers realize.

4 things to check before you drive in the rain

1. Tire tread depth

Worn tires can't move water out from under the contact patch, which means you lose grip fast on a wet road. If your tires are worn close to the wear bars (around 3/32 to 4/32 of an inch), it's time to replace them.

2. Tire pressure

Too low or too high and you lose traction. Check pressure at least once a month, more often during rainy season, and inflate to the manufacturer's recommended level.

3. Windshield wipers

If your wipers leave streaks or skip across the glass, replace them. Good visibility is non-negotiable in heavy rain.

4. All lights

In wet conditions, use your full headlight system, not just daytime running lights. When you only use DRLs, your rear lights don't activate. Road spray can make your car nearly invisible to drivers behind you.

Drive carefully out there. We'll be here when you arrive.
